Unlike popular belief amongst laypeople, liquids are not the only matter filtered in many experiments to learn about its composition and know its particles. Many gaseous matters can also be filtered in lab settings through membrane filters. If you are confused about what filter to choose to conduct a filtration process, read on. This guide will help you make informed choices.
How to pick the right membrane filter?
If you would like to use the filter to vent for a gas current, hydrophobic PTFE and polyester filters might be your best bet. If you are rather interested in the filtered particulate, silver, PP, PTFE, and glass fibre filters, they may be more appropriate for retrieval and microscopy. If your interest lies in filtered liquids, MCE and Nylon filters are some filters with protein-binding capacity. Meanwhile, cellulose acetate, PES, PVDF and polypropylene filters have a low protein-binding capacity and excellent flow rate. Polyester, Polycarbonate and MCE filters would be ideal for the liquid retentate.
The appropriate pore size matters
In any filtration process, the filters have a required pore size following the matter passed through. The filter's pore size is stated in micrometres, determined by the particles' diameter. Nominal ratings refer to the pore size of the filter at which the particulate will be retained with an efficiency below a hundred per cent (90-98%, generally). Meanwhile, absolute ratings refer to the pore size that guarantees to retain a hundred per cent of the particles, though they may be possible at certain test conditions. Generally, it is better to buy large filters to be able to reuse them more times.
RO membrane filters for your water purifier
It has not been too late since people around the world started to rely on RO water purifiers for drinking water. They filter tap water through an RO or reverse osmosis filter, which has to be replaced from the machine every 2 or 3 years. The ideal way to buy the membrane filter is to contact the brand with your model number. However, if it is unavailable at the moment, you can go to other stores or buy a membrane filter with similar composition for the time being.
