An infrared Emitter can be a LED that emits infrared radiations. Selecting the type of emitter you require

IR emitters are extensively used by the military, in aerospace, telecommunication, industrial sector, and healthcare. A single emitter package emits the signal through a single fitting whereas a dual emitter package emits the same signal via two distinct fittings. On the other hand, blast-style emitters emit signals to various detecting sources simultaneously. Since emitters must be portable, blink-style emitters are more commonly used.

Wavelength range must be kept in mind

The wavelength of the infrared radiation ranges from 700 nm to 1 mm. Although, it is further subdivided into Band I/Short Wave Infrared (1µm to 3µm) used in telecommunications and military purposes, Band II/Middle Wave Infrared (3µm to 5µm) used in the chemical industry, and Band III/Long Wave Infrared used in astronomy (8µm to 14µm). The voltage of the battery might be of the range 1.2V – 1.3 V, a potential difference higher than this, might damage the LED.
