Hersheys is an American manufacturer of chocolate and chocolate-based products. Established in 1894 by Milton S Hershey, they are one of the largest manufacturers of chocolates in the world. They are currently headquartered in Hershey, Pennsylvania and have annual sales of over $10 billion.
History
Milton Hershey initially started as a caramel producer in the 1870s and eventually sold his caramel factory to start the chocolate empire. With the advent of chocolate processing machines in the 1900s, Hersheys rocketed to the top of the chocolate world with their innovative techniques and recipes.
Social Responsibilities
Aside from the usage of sustainable products and eco-friendly manufacturing processes, Milton Hershey also found the Milton Hershey School in 1909, overseeing more than 2,000 students as of today.
Products
Hersheys has hundreds of products that they manufacture and distribute. These include cookies, milkshakes, cakes and more, apart from chocolates. One of their most famous chocolates has to be the Hersheys Kisses, a flat bottomed, domed chocolate which comes in bite-sized portions. Requiring more than 600,000 liters of milk and 45 million kilograms of cocoa, they make an astounding 60 million kisses every single day.
Hersheys has its famous chocolate bars and syrups also right up there with the kisses. Although most kids would be familiar with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, few actually know that it's manufactured by the Hersheys company. They also have partnerships with other companies such as Mars, to produce initial materials for M&Ms.
Apart from chocolates and other edibles, Hersheys also operates a theme park and hotel on its premises in Pennsylvania. The world grew quite close to their products and they decided it would be a great idea to let the general population tour their factory and manufacturing plants. Hersheypark now greets visitors from all around the world to the tune of 3 million visitors per year.
